Mommy Makeovers Gain Popularity

Submitted by: Abigail Aaronson

Mommy makeovers are cosmetic surgery procedures that help boost women’s confidence, rejuvenate their appearance, and repair damaged muscle and skin that can occur during pregnancy and birth. Mommy makeovers have been around for many years, but have recently seen resurgence in popularity. Here are some things you need to know about this popular cosmetic trend.

Why are mommy makeovers in demand?

As plastic surgery techniques and technology improve, so do the results. Cosmetic surgery is not just for the rich and famous anymore. Procedures are aimed at maximizing individual beauty rather than creating one standard aesthetic. A mommy makeover doesn’t mean transforming into a Barbie doll, but rather looking like a more refreshed, fitter version of you.

Many mothers also find that it is impossible to repair damaged muscles and skin after giving birth one or many times. Exercise and diet cannot always make visible improvements, but plastic surgery can help tighten and fix the physical trauma caused by the birthing process. Being in better physical shape gives mothers the energy and confidence they need to take care of their children, families, and tackle on their many other responsibilities.

What is a Mommy Makeover?

What constitutes a mommy makeover varies by individual and plastic surgeon practices, but generally it describes a combination of procedures most commonly aimed at repairing post pregnancy bodies, but can include treating problems related to ageing as well. The most common procedures involved in mommy makeovers are tummy tucks liposuction, breast lift or augmentation, and facial fillers.

What are the benefits of a mommy makeover?

This procedure is a great way for overworked and stressed mothers to put themselves first for once. Cosmetic surgery can help boost confidence and self-esteem, as well as help women feel younger. It can help a woman feel rejuvenated and better prepared to deal with the difficulties of raising a family.

Choosing a mommy makeover can also be a wiser budget option. There are not anymore inherent risks with having multiple surgeries at once, which means you will save on recovery time and can get back to work sooner than if you were to have separate procedures. Many plastic surgeons also offer lower prices for combination packages as it also is more cost effective for them.

What are the costs?

How much a mommy makeover costs will depend on the individual, area, and plastic surgeon? They can rage anywhere from $5,000 to $20,000 depending on the extent of the surgery. There will also be recovery costs as well as medication, hospital stay (if necessary), transportation, and in some cases aftercare.

When is a good time to get a mommy makeover?

Be sure that you are financially ready as well as have ample time to rest and recover in peace. Most recoveries last at least two weeks, but may require as much as three to four depending on how many procedures you have at once and what they entail.

It’s important to have a close friend or relative available initially to help you with daily activities. If you have many small children who require a lot of attention, you may want to hire some temporary help or have a friend keep them occupied so they aren’t tempted to disturb you.

Preliminary report sheds light on SAS landing gear incident

Friday, September 14, 2007

A preliminary report by the Danish civil aviation authority, SLV, has shed light on the events leading up to a Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) airliner experiencing a landing gear failure upon landing in Denmark, one of two similar crashes that have resulted in the grounding of more than 60 of the model in question across the world.

The aircraft, a Bombardier Q400 (alternatively known as a de Havilland Canada Dash 8), crashed due to a landing gear failure after a nut worked loose, due in turn to rusting on the threads of its bolt, according to the SLV’s aircraft accident investigation committee report on Scandinavian Airlines Flight 1209. The nut and bolt were vital to the locking mechanism for the starboard landing gear, and consequently the structure collapsed.

The SLV does not specifically address why this occurred, but according to SLV spokesman Thorbjoern Ancker the problem is a design flaw, and not a maintenance issue as previously suspected. In his own words, ‘All speculation that this was an error by SAS is now shown to be wrong… It’s a constructional weakness.’ He explained that Bombardier maintenance documents supplied with the aircraft did not require maintenance personnel to inspect the bolt in question, and that accordingly this had not been done.

Pending completion of landing gear inspections by SAS, Norwegian, Swedish and Danish authorities will make a decision regarding whether the air carrier’s Q400 fleet should remain grounded, or be permitted to resume operations.

A spokesman for Bombardier refused to comment on the findings when contacted by reporters, preferring instead to wait until the publication of the final report into the accident. He did, however, make one comment regarding speculation that SAS would be compensated if the accident was proven to be the responsibility of the supplier, saying, “That will be part of the discussions between Bombardier and airlines.”

Scandinavian Airlines have canceled 111 flights today as their Q400s are grounded per Air Transport Canada orders, while SAS have concealed 110 flights today and tomorrow while their aircraft are grounded.

Bombardier have circulated a document to all operators of the type, containing advice recommending a revised inspection program.

Shares in Bombardier fell 14 cents, or 2.2%, to CA$6.21 and most recent reports have them at $6.25. The company is therefore currently valued at $11 billion. Goodrich, who manufactured the equipment, fell 9 cents, or 0.1%, to US$65.11. SAS, who own Scandinavian Airlines, fell 2.25 kronor, or 1.9%, to 115.75 kronor. A continuing fall in SAS shares prices over the last six weeks has almost negated all gains this year.

Wimbledon Officials receive criticism from animal rights group after shooting birds

Wednesday, June 25, 2008

Animal rights activists have complained after officials from the Wimbledon tennis tournament shot down pigeons, allegedly because they were an inconvenience to players. This move was possibly illegal under Animal Welfare Act 2006, which prevents using lethal force unless it is used as a last resort.

File:BruceFriedrich1.jpg

Wikinews spoke to Bruce Friedrich, Vice President of PETA, which has campaigned against the move. He said that “killing animals so quickly and for such frivolous reasons is cruel, illegal, and won’t work.”

Wikinews has also been told by Friedrich that “the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club should still be prosecuted for cruelty to animals, since they broke the law and should be held accountable.”

Violation of the Animal Welfare act carries a maximum sentence of “imprisonment for a term not exceeding 51 weeks” or a fine “not exceeding £20,000”

Wikinews has also been given a copy of the letter sent to Wimbledon officials. Below is the text of the first paragraph:

I am writing to you from the European affiliate of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), the world’s largest animal rights organisation, with more than two million members and supporters, to ask that if this morning’s reports of marksmen killing pigeons at Wimbledon are correct, you order an immediate halt to this cruel and illegal behavior.

The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (which runs the Wimbledon Championships) has not yet released a statement regarding the incident, although The Independent has reported that one will be made after the tournament.

Does My Ex Girlfriend Still Love Me? Learning To Spot The Signs}

Submitted by: Anthony Malibu

Wondering whether or not you should try to get back together with your ex girlfriend? After a break up, many people fight for a second chance in their relationship. It’s common to want to hold onto someone when you still love them, especially if you think the romance can work. But does your ex still love you? Knowing the answer can make a big difference in whether or not you get her back.

For every break up there’s a potential reconciliation. For anyone trying to win back an exgirlfriend, you should understand and believe that fixing your breakup is not only possible, but actually pretty likely. A startling number of couples give love a second chance after being apart for a while, and your own relationship should be no different. But if your ex was the one who broke things off, it’s your responsibility to get her to the point where she misses you and wants you back again.

Old Feelings Die Hard

An important thing to realize is that a woman’s feelings for you will always run strong. In order to break up with you she can’t just turn her feelings off like a faucet… it doesn’t work that way. So what a girl does is take whatever left over emotions she might have toward you after the break up and buries them inside herself. Sometimes she buries them deep, but other times she puts them just beneath the surface. You can tell when a girl still loves you because she’ll turn away quickly and be reluctant to talk to you immediately after the break up, often breaking into tears as a defense mechanism to get away from you. This is because she knows you’re trying to pull those feelings back out and show them to her.

If getting your ex back were simple, you could just dig up those feelings and use them to win her heart again. However, it’s a little more complicated than that. The ideal way of getting back an ex girlfriend is to allow her to rediscover those emotions herself. This isn’t to say you can’t help her by showing your ex where those feelings are buried. There are methods for uncovering the love that your ex still has for you, but you need to do it in a manner that’s slow and subtle. If you come off as too fast, desperate, or overbearing, your ex is going to take three steps back for each one you take forward.

Learning How to Make Her Miss You

Causing your ex to face those emotions will make her miss you, and from there, think about you. Dating you again is the next logical step, as she begins to realize what life will be like without you in it. Many guys are afraid to make a move before asking themselves “Does my ex still love me?” They want definite signs that their exgirlfriend still has feelings for them before they proceed.

To know how good your chances are, you need to examine the way you’ve been treated by your ex girlfriend after the break up. Have you been in contact with your ex? Post-break up communication is usually an indication that one or both of you aren’t over the relationship. If your ex hasn’t called or written you after she ended things, it’s possible she’s trying to move on. The further she gets, the harder it will be to win her back. Although giving your ex some space after the break up – and a period of non-communication – can be instrumental in making her miss you again, there’s also a time when you need to initiate contact yourself. Knowing when and how to do that is crucial, before your ex takes too many steps away from your relationship.

Understanding The Rules of Ex Girlfriend Contact

Don’t be upset if your ex hasn’t called you yet. If her feelings are strong, breaking ties with you might require her to steer clear of you seeing or hearing from you for a while. Some girls do this for fear of relapsing into the relationship. The know their own feelings… and those feelings are so strong, they’re afraid that seeing or hearing from you will destroy their will to continue the break up. But other girls? They’re trying to put you out of their minds for a reason. Getting back into your ex’s head is a necessary part of winning your girlfriend back.

The good news is that if you’re still in touch with your ex, things are looking up. If she’s still emailing or texting you, or even calling to speak to you after she’s ended things, chances are she’s missing your company. Any girl still talking to her ex has still left the door to the relationship open… if only just a crack. There are methods you can use to gently tug on her feelings and emotions toward you, causing that door to slowly swing open. By touching on past memories you shared together and exhibiting behaviors consistent with the very beginning of your relationship, you can put your ex into an entirely different mindset. When you’ve created the type of environment where she’s receptive to the idea of dating you again, you can set up a casual meeting for lunch or coffee. This is a huge step toward getting back together with your girlfriend.

More Signs She Might Want You Back

An even better sign that your ex girlfriend still loves you is her calling just to say hello, without any provocation or message on your part. When that happens, your ex is sitting on the fence, trying to determine whether or not to get back together with you. Part of her wants to see you again, and the other part wants to continue being single. Which part do you get when she calls? It all depends on the timing. Lots of different factors affect your ex girlfriend’s mental state at all different times of the day or week. For example, when she’s lonely and sitting on her bed at night? That’s when she’s most likely to miss you. Choosing these moments of opportunity to make your move can greatly boost your chances of success, but timing isn’t everything… you also need to know what to say, and what to do that will make your ex want you back.

No matter what direction your reconciliation takes you, the best thing to do is

have a plan

. Trying to get your ex back without knowing exactly what you’re doing can destroy what’s left of your relationship and can actually push your girlfriend away. Learn the right and wrong ways to approach your ex, and once you do, execute your plan with confidence.

Transgender woman dies after beating in Harlem, New York

Saturday, August 24, 2013

A transgender woman attacked in Harlem, New York last week died on Thursday after being declared brain dead and taken off life support. Police are treating the death of Islan Nettles, 21, as a hate crime.

They were called faggots, they were called he-shes, she-males, things of that nature

Nettles was walking with transgender friends early on August 17 when they met a group of men opposite a local police building. Police say a fight ensued after the men discovered the group was transgender and local man Paris Wilson, 20, was arrested at the scene.

Wilson was charged by prosecutors in Manhattan with assault and harassment. Prosecutors say more serious charges could be brought after police received allegations homophobic language was used, with a hate crimes team now investigating. The death has been ruled a homicide and a spokeswoman for the New York City medical examiner’s office said Nettles was killed by “blunt impact head injuries”.

The criminal complaint Wilson presently faces says a police officer found Nettles “unconscious on the ground with a swollen shut eye and blood on her face”. Wilson is accused of punching Nettles to the ground and then repeatedly hitting her while she lay there.

Fashion became a definite decision for my life after my first show with my hand designed garments in high school

Nettles was interested in a fashion career, working as an intern for local fashion firm Ay’Medici. “Fashion became a definite decision for my life after my first show with my hand designed garments in highschool”, she wrote on LinkedIn, where she described herself as “anti-violence”. She has previously instructed fashion at Harlem Children’s Zone, undertaking studies at New York College of Technology and the Bread and Roses Integrated Arts High School.

Her mother, Dolores Nettles, told press Nettles and her friends were subject to transphobic insults. “They were called faggots, they were called he-shes, she-males, things of that nature,” she said.

Daniel L. Squadron of the New York State Senate said yesterday in a statement “Islan was 21 years old — 21 years old. And her life and future were stolen from her. Let’s be clear: intolerance, discrimination and hate have no place in New York or anywhere.” He called for the passage of a related bill he supports, the Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act.

Wilson is presently free on bail, with a court hearing scheduled for October 4.

Eurovision ’82 winner Nicole talks about ‘Ein bißchen Frieden’, her success and the Contest today

Monday, February 2, 2009

It has been nearly 27 years since Nicole, then a high school student from the Saarland in extreme western Germany, sang a heartfelt plea for world peace on the stage at the Eurovision Song Contest held in Harrogate, North Yorkshire in the United Kingdom. That simple message was wrapped with success; she became the first German in Contest history to take home the grand prize. The song was a brainchild of her former record producer, Ralph Siegel, and would be their greatest achievement in their nearly three-decade partnership.

Afterward, she was propelled to stardom across Europe by recording versions of her winning song, “Ein bißchen Frieden” (A little peace), in many European languages. To this day, it was the last winning Eurovision song to top the charts in the United Kingdom; it also has the distinction of being the 500th #1 single on the British charts.

This newfound fame brought her music to audiences across Europe, and in time, into Asia as well. By the end of the 1980s, however, her fame subsided somewhat and she refocused her career domestically. Since 1980, she has released over 30 albums in Germany; her most recent offering, Mitten ins Herz (Right into your heart), was accompanied by a three-month “unplugged” tour that ended in the third week of January.

Now off the road, Nicole spoke with Wikinews’ Mike Halterman about her past success, her life and career today, and her overall impressions of the Eurovision Song Contest, both past and present. This is the first in a series of interviews with past Eurovision contestants, which will be published sporadically in the lead-up to mid-May’s next contest in Moscow.

Writers Guild of America ends strike

Wednesday, February 13, 2008

Hollywood writers have voted to end a three-month strike that crippled film and television production.

Yesterday, Patric Verrone, president of the Writers Guild of America West, said they will end the 100-day strike. “The membership has voted. Writers can go back to work,” Verrone said.

Nearly 3800 members of the guild, both the east and west coast unions cast their ballots in New York City and Los Angeles, with more than 92 percent voting to end the strike. The writers will be back to work today and new episodes of televisions series should come as early as four to six weeks.

The strike occurred over the streaming of television, movies and other creative work over the Internet and how writers should be paid for that content. Under a tentative agreement, the writers would get a maximum flat fee of $1,200 per program in the first two years, then two percent of a distributor’s gross revenue in the third year.

The strike ended after entertainment company heads including, Leslie Moonves, the CEO of CBS, Peter Chernin, the president of News Corporation and Robert A. Iger, the CEO of The Walt Disney Company and union officials such as Verrone and executive director David Young worked out a deal.

Moonves said the deal was a fair one, according to the Associated Press. When speaking to the entertainment publication Variety, he said, “I think there was some miscommunication early on. It was important that we started speaking eye to eye. Ultimately, getting the percentage of streaming revenue was important to (WGA), and I understand it.”

The end to the strike means Hollywood’s annual celebration, the Academy Awards, can go ahead as scheduled, February 24. The threat of picketing writers had reduced the Golden Globes last month to a news conference. Sid Ganis, the president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the executive producer of this year’s 80th Academy Awards, Gil Cates, will hold a news conference today to reveal their plans for the award show since there will not a be picket line in front of the Kodak Theatre where the award show will be held.

The strike stopped production of dozens of television shows and slowed production on movies. One Los Angeles economist says it cost the local economy at least $3 billion. However, the city of Los Angeles believed losses to only be around $380 million.

Why Online Degrees Are Taking The Cake

Submitted by: David Johns

When I was a young boy our Jr. High School class took a trip to Stanford University. When I told my mother that I wanted to attend this very prestigious and beautiful school, she laughed and said “you’ll never go there.”

For years I suffered the anxiety of thinking that I had wasted my life because I didn’t attend a school that was deemed worthy by a certain ideal in society. But the fact is, almost everyone doesn’t attend a top tier college. In fact, most jobs just require an accredited degree to get in the door – they really want to see productivity and it seems the “good ol’ boy” mentality has long dissolved into a few staggering companies that are hanging on to yesterday. This isn t to imply that a quality education doesn t go a long way, but rather to emphasize the importance of justly guided passion in the pursuit of the right kind of success. Many successful professionals have learned that it s faster and less expensive to avoid unnecessary curriculums and to focus on learning the skill-set or certification to perform the task at hand.

At one point, in a not so far off decade, the thought of online degrees made people cringe. Reputation meant so much, to a static thinking pool of self-diagnosed qualified candidates – there were different fish to catch in those times. But as Bob Dylan wrote, “the times they are a changin.” With the growth of new technologies and advantages in distance learning capabilities, online schools have recruited top teaching talent and bent a knee to amass a student body that is boasting a portion of the career pie. In fact, these schools are offering more and more advantages to a huge market segment that just can’t say no to online education.

These are some of the reasons that Online Education will continue to suck numbers from State Schools: the newer generation doesn’t care about what you think ; gas is expensive; it’s cool to live at home and play video games in your 30’s; when you have a family and job there is just good reason to spend that 1-hour at home instead of 2-3 hours going to a remote class. Have you ever lived in a larger city? Did you come from a smaller, more rural location? Notice the difference in the cost of living? There are also risks in leaving a career in an economy that, let s just say, has seen better days. What if you could get your Master s Degree on the G.I. Bill while serving a tour in Iraq? Wouldn t it be nice to come back to the States with a wide open door to a career path that would allow the freedom to actually discriminate in your job search?

What does the average student score on their SAT s? Well, the average student doesn t take the SAT, but that doesn t mean the times don t change people s lives change, and with that comes new paths. Online degrees open possibilities where old school systems closed doors. Not just for one segment of society but in fact for most of society. Why will online schools take the cake, because it s their cake to take.
