Immediate life insurance website launched, first in world

Tuesday, May 15, 2007

The first website in the world allowing consumers to buy life insurance online instantly has been launched today, targeting specifically New Zealanders.

The website, run by life insurance company Pinnacle Life, allows New Zealanders in many countries in the world to buy life insurance online without the need for a medical examination. Once the application has been approved, which is done immediately, the consumer can receive a $500,000 life insurance policy via an automatic e-mail. However, if certain conditions have been highlighted, then person to person contact is required to finalise the process.

Ed Saul, senior partner and architect of the new website, says, “We’re giving consumers a quicker and easier way to buy life insurance. Instead of submitting an application form and waiting days for a policy to be approved and issued, we do it online and we do it immediately.”

“The revolutionary website gives consumers complete control over the buying process whilst eliminating the previously obligatory involvement of people and paper. This is a global test case eagerly watched by the insurance industry around the world,” Mr Saul said.

When applying online, a few typical questions are asked on personal information and if the applicant has had any previous illnesses or diseases.

The countries where New Zealand citizens are allowed to apply are UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore and the USA.

Oil spill spotted along Mississippi River

Sunday, September 4, 2005

In Louisiana, southeast of New Orleans, two storage tanks estimated to be filled with up to 160,000 barrels (6.7 million gallons) of oil are reported to be leaking into the Mississippi River. It was first noticed on September 1, 2005 by an aircraft flying overhead. Officials are not certain whether the tanks are the cause of the leak or how full the tanks are. Inspection of the storage tanks from the ground is impossible due to flooding in the area.

In comparison, the Exxon Valdez oil spill off Alaska leaked between 11 and 35 million gallons of oil.

Due to massive efforts directed toward search and rescue in New Orleans, the Coast Guard has not been able to look into the matter.

Alcohol Withdrawal Treatment: What Can Be Done To Ease The Pain Of Withdrawal

By JimC

When an alcoholic tries to quit drinking, he can expect unpleasant withdrawal symptoms to go along with purging of the alcohol from the body. These symptoms can get really painful and a person experiencing it may have to undergo an alcohol withdrawal treatment.

* What Is an Alcohol Withdrawal Treatment and Where Does One Get It?

The person is likely to experience withdrawal symptoms during the first few days of depriving the body of alcohol. These symptoms are common side effects of the detoxification process. And because these side effects are often painful and dangerous, rehabilitation clinics use painkillers and sedatives as part of the alcohol withdrawal treatment, to help the patient cope. Medical professionals working in rehab centers and clinics administer these treatments.

* What Are the Usual Withdrawal Symptoms of Alcoholics?

Withdrawal symptoms will vary from one person to another. It may take a few days or a few weeks. This will depend on how the long the person has been dependent on alcohol and how dependent he has been. The most common withdrawal symptoms are headaches, nausea, anxiety and insomnia. This can be treated by mild sedatives. The more extreme symptoms include convulsions, seizures, delirium tremors and high blood pressure attacks can be treated with painkillers and stronger sedatives. It is important that a person detoxifies in place where he can access alcohol withdrawal treatment preferably somewhere nearby his or her other half.

* Alcohol Withdrawal Treatments beyond the Detox Stage

A reformed drinker’s greatest task after the rehab stage is to keep sober. This is not an easy task and it requires vigilance on the part of his family and friends and even medications to help him sustain an alcohol free life. Unlike medications administered in an alcohol withdrawal treatment, these medications will make the person fill ill when they ingest alcohol and control their craving.

Hot Grand Canyon Las Vegas Helicopter Tours For The Memorial Day Holiday}

Click Here To Find Out More About:

Submitted by: Rhegie Taylor

Ready to do a Las Vegas Grand Canyon Helicopter tour during the Memorial Day Holiday? Awesome! Pick from a no-landing or landing tour and see the Canyon the way it was meant to be experienced – from the air!

From Vegas!

Vegas is ideally situated for helicopter tours. But keep in mind, they only go to the West Rim, which is a 125-mile flight that takes a helicopter about 45 minutes to complete.. Some folks want the South Rim, and that can be accommodated, but you have to take a plane first and then a helicopter from Tusayan, AZ. .

The flight path for all tours is the same. You go over Lake Mead, Fortification Hill, Hoover Dam, Colorado River and the Canyon. If you’re doing a no-landing, you’ll turn back for Vegas. If you’re doing a landing tour, you’ll go to the top, the bottom or both.

Landing Tours

I personally prefer landing tours as you get to see and do more. Specifically, I like the tour that lands at the base and comes with a Champagne Picnic. People who go this route also like to upgrade this trip to include a Colorado River boat ride.

Tours that land on top are called Skywalk tours. These trips include VIP tickets to the glass bridge, a snack pack, free shuttle service between the Guano and Eagle Points and about 2 hours on the rim for exploration (remember to make time for the Native American dances and culture). .

Skywalk

For those unfamiliar with the Glass Bridge, it’s an all-glass platform that lets you walk 70 feet over the edge until you’re standing about 4.000 feet over the bottom. It’s an amazing sensation and the views you get are simply spectacular.

Tours from Vegas are either basic or deluxe. The key difference is the kind of helicopter used. The basic tours use the old helicopters and the deluxe tours use the new ones. I personally prefer deluxe because of the new helicopter and all the perks that come with the package.

Deluxe Helicopter

The new helicopter, for example, is 25 percent bigger than the old helicopter. It’s also equipped with a 180-degree windshield and bucket seats that are configured stadium style so everyone has a great view of the National Park. Lastly, these machines are equipped with great climate control, which is invaluable during summer and winter months.

I recommend booking a Vegas heli tour in advance. I recommend trying to book a week ahead of time in order to get the best seats and the cheapest price. I do not recommend booking same day because the price will be more and the seats might be sold out. And remember to complete your booking online in order to qualify for the Internet rate, which is fixed and final and the cheapest.

Conclusion

I hope this article about Grand Canyon Las Vegas helicopter tours during the Memorial Day Holiday proved helpful. As noted, I prefer landing tours, and especially the one that comes with the Champagne picnic. I also recommend going with a deluxe tour because you fly in the new chopper. Lastly, book your tour now. Waiting until the last minute means higher prices and the possibility that the tour is sold out.

Mascots for Vancouver 2010 Olympics based on native mythology

Tuesday, November 27, 2007

The mascots of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia were just announced. Based on mythological characters, they are Miga, Quatchi and Sumi.

Miga, a sea bear who lives in the ocean with her family pod near Tofino, and Quatchi, a young sasquatch, represent the Olympics, while Sumi represents the Paralympics that follow afterward.

A sea bear is a First Nations creature, part killer whale, part Kermode spirit bear. While illustrated as being taller than the other characters, the mascot costume of Quatchi is the same height as the other two characters.

The third mascot, Sumi, an animal-guardian spirit, is a Thunderbird that wears the hat of an orca. Sumi will be the mascot of the Paralympics.

In 2004, the Times Colonist suggested a marmot might be a good mascot, except for their winter hibernation. The organizers still chose one, named Mukmuk, as their “virtual only” counterpart.

After the Olympic logo design was leaked the day before the 2005 announcement, organizers were extremely tight lipped until today’s news conference at a Surrey school. They apparently didn’t do any development on the characters on internet-enabled computers, to ensure the images or information wouldn’t slip out.

The characters were designed by the Vancouver and Los Angeles-based Meomi Design. Their characters have been used as part of iGoogle, a customizable homepage option from Google, as well as Electronic Arts, Girls Inc., Time Out Magazine, Cyworld, Nick Jr., Bang-on Clothing, and CBC4Kids.

The Vancouver organizers have a CDN$46-million merchandising program; previous Olympics have made as much as $100 million from mascot-related products.

René Fasel, Chairman of the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Coordination Commission commented that “The IOC welcomes these imaginative new additions to the Olympic Family as they take their place on the world stage today – a symbol of the Games and of Canada. We know that when Olympians, Paralympians and visitors from around the globe arrive in British Columbia at Games time, they will fall under the spell of these captivating characters.”

The characters first appearance will be at a Bay store in the Lower Mainland; HBC is a major sponsor of the Games. They will then make their way to schools, take a break through the Christmas season, and fly to Ottawa for the Winterlude festival.
