What Is A Tax Lien And When It Is Used?

By Gray Rollins

A lien is defined as the right to hold or sell property that is owned by an individual who owes debt. The property is often sold to make payment on the debt or the property is held as security until the debt is paid off. There are many financial institutions that use a lien to obtain the amount of money owned to them. In addition to financial institutions, the federal government also uses tax liens to obtain money until their debt is paid off in full.

When the federal government makes a tax lien claim on a property, there is really nothing a taxpayer can do besides pay the amount of money they owe or try to work something out with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Since the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is mostly interested in getting their money and nothing else, taxpayers may wish to hire the services of a professional tax attorney. Professional tax attorneys are experienced with dealing with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and developing a solution that benefits everyone involved.

When the government takes hold of a property they have a number of things they can do. Most county governments offer what is called a tax sales auction. This auction is open to the general public and the public can purchase the property or purchase a debt that will be later paid off. When an individual is purchasing the debt instead of the property it is as if they are loaning money to the taxpayer who is behind on their taxes owed. The individual who agrees to pay the amount of taxes due on the property will have their name placed on a lien certificate. This certificate will be used in case a property owner still is unable to make good on the amount of money he or she owes. At this time the individual who purchased a lien on the property has the right to foreclose on the property if they wish to do so.

In addition to auctions where only a lien certificate is purchased, there are tax lien property sales. These sales are also open to the general public and they are often performed as an auction. When an individual is the winning bidder at deed sale they become the new owners of the property. These new property owners will not be responsible for any previous mortgages or previous liens.

A tax lien is often imposed by the government as one last chance to try and obtain the amount of money a property owner owes them. Once a lien tax has been filed against an individual and their property, their credit may be damaged. A lien imposed by the government often prevents individuals from being able to purchase new properties, new vehicles, or even lease an apartment. If you are unable to pay the amount of money owed on your taxes it is important you contact a tax attorney today. Take action now and learn about your tax lien options before it becomes too late.

Open source game developer Perttu Ahola talks about Minetest with Wikinews

Tuesday, June 30, 2020

Recently, Finnish open-source video game developer Perttu Ahola discussed Minetest, his “longest ever project”, with Wikinews.

Started in October 2010, Minetest was an attempt by Ahola to create a sandbox game similar to Minecraft. Minecraft is a multi-platform commercial game, which was in alpha version when Ahola challenged himself to create something similar to it from scratch, he told Wikinews.

Minetest is an open-source game, which is free for anyone to download and play. It is written in the C++ programming language, and the source code is available on code-hosting site GitHub. According to Ahola, Minetest attempts to run on older hardware, with limited graphics, but to be accessible to more people: those who have outdated technology, and making it available for no cost. Minecraft, on the other hand, is a paid game, currently costing USD 26.95 for its computer version. Minecraft is currently owned by Microsoft, and performs poorly on older hardware.

A correspondent from French Wikinews contacted Perttu Ahola via Internet Relay Chat a few weeks ago, discussing Minecraft. This interview is built on top of the previous interview, as we take a deeper dive into knowing more about this free game which is about to turn ten years old in a few months.

Former Scottish Conservatives leader Annabel Goldie to stand down as MSP

Friday, June 26, 2015

Annabel Goldie, Scottish Conservative Party leader from 2005 to 2011, has announced she will stand down as an MSP at the next elections in 2016. Goldie, who has been an MSP for the West Scotland (previously West of Scotland) electoral region since the Scottish Parliament’s formation in 1999, said she intends to focus on her role in the House of Lords, where she has been a peer since 2013.File:Annabel Goldie.jpg

In a statement today, Goldie said leading the party was an “enormous honour” for her. She also said: “It has afforded me both satisfaction and pleasure to serve my constituents and to serve the parliament and I will look back with great happiness at my time as an MSP. I am grateful to friends and colleagues from all parties for their support. Sometimes we found common ground, sometimes we disagreed but never I hope with rancour nor disrespect. Politics is a rough trade but we have built a strong parliament in Scotland of which we can all be rightly proud.” She said because of Ruth Davidson, her successor as Scottish Conservative leader, the party is now “in fine fettle and stands a great chance of making real progress in the years ahead,” concluding by saying: “I look forward to continuing to work as part of that effort in the House of Lords in the years to come.”

Davidson responded to the news by calling Goldie an “unstoppable force”, adding: “She has been an inspiration to a whole generation of Scottish Conservatives, and she has been a tremendous mentor, support and friend to me. In Holyrood, she has fostered both affection and respect from all members – regardless of their political affiliation – and her retirement from the Scottish Parliament will leave an Annabel-sized hole which won’t ever quite be filled. She is unique.” Meanwhile, David Cameron, UK Conservative leader and UK Prime Minister, said: “Annabel is one of those rare breeds in Scottish politics, somebody known by her first name alone. When she was Scottish Conservative leader, I valued her sage advice. She has been a towering strength to our party in Scotland, a doughty debater in the TV studios and Scottish Parliament and has one of the sharpest wits around. I wish her a long and happy retirement after 17 years unstinting service at Holyrood – but look forward to seeing her on the red benches of the Lords for years to come.”

In Holyrood, she has fostered both affection and respect from all members – regardless of their political affiliation – and her retirement from the Scottish Parliament will leave an Annabel-sized hole which won’t ever quite be filled. She is unique.

Goldie, the Scottish Conservatives’ first ever female leader, was elected unopposed. She took up the role in the aftermath of David McLetchie’s resignation from the role in an expenses usage controversy and subsequent resignation of Brian Monteith from his Conservative whip role in the Scottish Parliament for briefing the media against him. Meanwhile, as Scottish Conservatives won 18 seats in the Scottish Parliament in 1999 and 2003, the party had been less successful in UK general elections in Scotland; Conservatives went up from zero out of a possible 72 UK MPs in Scotland in 1997 to one in 2001. This led to Goldie remarking in her inaugural speech in 2005 that: “The wheels are back on the wagon – and I’m the nag hitched up to tow it.” She also said: “The party is still way ahead of where it was in 1997. And my first task is to take it forward to 2007.” However, under Goldie’s leadership, the number of seats the Scottish Conservatives won in the Scottish Parliament slightly decreased from 18 in 2003 to 17 in 2007 and to 15 in 2011. At the same time, the number of Conservative MPs stood at one out of a possible 59 after the 2010 UK general election.

In the aforementioned 2005 speech, she also said the party could be trusted with devolution in Scotland, adding: “making devolution work better means real devolution: not the lumbering and cripplingly expensive array of government departments, government advisers, consultants, quangos, quasi-quangos and agencies with all their expensive appendages, but devolving down to people and their communities, their right to make their own decisions about their lives, how for example they procure healthcare and how they educate their children.” Goldie would go on to sit on the advisory board for the Smith Commission, which was set up to examine which further political powers should be devolved to Scotland following the 2014 Scottish independence referendum. More recently, Goldie supported a reduction in the voting age for Scottish Parliament elections from 18 to 16 in a vote earlier this month, commenting: “I think it is an opportunity for them to continue their high level of engagement in topical affairs that we saw with the independence referendum.”

Goldie, a member of the Salvation Army’s West of Scotland Advisory Board and a Church of Scotland elder, is not the only Scottish Conservative MSP intending to stand down in 2016. Mary Scanlon, Gavin Brown, Alex Fergusson and Nanette Milne all reportedly intend to leave the Scottish Parliament next year.

Norwegian military security agency accused of conducting illegal surveillance of PM

Saturday, June 13, 2009

Yesterday, Norwegian news outlets reported that Defense Security Service (Forsvarets sikkerhetstjeneste [FOST]) had conducted illegal surveillance against the prime minister’s office and other government offices.

Kripos, a division of the Norwegian Ministry of Justice and the Police, did a police search of the Norwegian Ministry of Defence’s top-secret intelligence agency’s computer equipment in Jørstadmoen, after a request by the Ministry of Defense.

While remaining confident that the case will be investigated in a correct way, Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg stated to Aftenposten late Wednesday that “it’s important that the police now find out what actually has happened.”

Verdens Gang reported that to their knowledge, the surveillance happened in connection with FOST, having the responsibility for the computer security of key personnel within the prime minister’s office and other government offices. For practical reasons these people have been connected to the military secure lines. Sources with insight to the surveillance process explained to Aftenposten that when a possible breach of computer security is detected its protocol that the person be given a notice that he may be in process off or already have broken the security rules. A person, possible within the Prime minister’s office has most likely received such a note and has reacted to the fact that the computer traffic had been under surveillance.

Vice admiral Jan Eirik Finseth told Verdens Gang that the Defense security agency’s computer security section, reported that computer communication lines had been put under surveillance by military communications lines. Vice admiral Finseth stated to Verdens Gang that “the circumstances is of such a nature that the police [were] asked to investigate if anything of this may be illegal.”

When Wikinews contacted State attorney Petter Mandt, who leads the investigation, we received confirmation that a search in Jørstadmoen took place, but he would not comment on what was confiscated, if anything. Mandt also stated that they would not comment on any specifics or give any details on the investigation, but explained that for use of a police search there has to be more than 50% probable suspicion that something illegal may have happened. When asked if suspicion was that the prime minister’s office had been put under illegal surveillance, Mandt refused to comment and stated that he will comment on neither how many nor who the individuals involved are.

Defense political spokesperson for Socialistic left (Sv) Bjørn Jacobsen, told Wikinews that “it’s important to find out what, if anything has happened,” but that “it’s shocking that there even exist[s] a reason for a police search.” When asked what will happen if anything illegal is found to have taken place, Jacobsen responded by pointing out that in this case the prosecutors will have to decide on what to do next, but stated that “parliament will have to see if the law and regulations ha[ve] to be changed. It’s important to stop an eventual bad culture before it sticks to the walls.”

This is the second investigation of illegal government surveillance in Norway since the Lund commission’s report uncovered illegal surveillance of communist, socialist, and other persons, which the Norwegian Police Security Service deemed to be dangerous.

Wikinews was unable to get any comments from the Norwegian Military Defense when contacted.

Penis Pain How To Tell If It S A Penis Fracture

Penis Pain How to Tell if it s a Penis Fracture

by

John Dugan

The term penis fracture is a cringe-inducing one no man wants to even think about a broken penis, never mind experience it. In fact, it doesn t even sound possible how can the penis be fractured when it doesn t have any bones? Unfortunately, though, it is true the penis can break and knowing when to get help can make all the difference between a short-term inconvenience and a lifetime of discomfort and impaired performance. Plus, since avoiding a penis fracture in the first place is the best solution, penis heath remedies and tips for preventing a broken penis are discussed here.

Penis fractures how and why

To understand what is meant by a penis fracture, it is necessary to be aware of the underlying anatomy of the penis. Essentially, the shaft of the penis consists of a spongy tissue known as the corprora cavernosa the part of the penis that becomes filled with blood during an erection. This tissue is surrounded by a fibrous membrane called the tunica albuginea, which holds it in place and gives it its shape.

If the penis is bent or buckled abruptly during sex or whatever this outer membrane can rupture, resulting in sudden, severe pain that may be accompanied by a loud, popping noise. Penis fractures are most common during sexual activity where the woman is on top and comes down suddenly at an unfortunate angle, or when the man thrusts and hits the woman s pubic bone.

An interesting side note on this issue, according to Dr. Andrew Kramer, a urologist at the University of Maryland Medical Center, is that in many cases, penis fractures appear to occur during extramarital affairs or in places besides the bedroom. There is some logic to this idea, since doing it in an unauthorized location or with an unauthorized person is likely to create a more heated and frantic atmosphere.

Treating a broken penis

Regardless of how the penis is broken, when a fracture occurs, it should be considered a medical emergency. Surgical correction is generally necessary to prevent long-term problems. Unfortunately (and possibly because of the circumstances mentioned above), many men are reluctant to seek medical attention due to embarrassment or the fear of spousal fury and hope that the problem will resolve on its own.

Implications of a broken penis

Unfortunately, leaving a broken penis to heal on its own can lead to several complications. Permanent deformity, as well as ongoing pain, are the most obvious of these, and leaving a fracture untreated can lead to loss of function. But even a penis that appears to heal normally may present with problems later on. Scar tissue may develop as part of the healing process. This scar tissue does not expand in the same way as the surrounding membrane, which can cause mild to severe bending during an erection. This, in turn, can lead to painful intercourse or even impotence.

Preventing penis fractures

Clearly, prevention in this case is the best medicine. For men who are prone to acrobatics in the bedroom, the best advice is to keep the penis moisturized, use a lubricant, and really, just be as careful as possible. Supporting healthy skin and connective tissue by keeping the manhood well-nourished with the rejuvenating vitamins and minerals found in a high-quality penis health cr me (most health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil) can help to keep the penis moisturized and supple and reduce the risk of developing scar tissue related to chronic rough handling or sudden trauma. A health cr me that is applied directly to the penis will be absorbed directly into the penis skin for maximum benefit.

Obama approval ratings hit new lows

Wednesday, August 4, 2010

According to new polls, US President Barack Obama’s approval ratings have dropped across the board. According to a new USA Today/Gallup poll, Americans are losing faith in the president’s plan in Afghanistan and Iraq, where wars have been going on for years and casualties have risen. 43% of those polled say that it was a mistake for Obama’s predecessor George W. Bush to go to war after terrorists crashed planes into the World Trade Center buildings in New York on September 11, 2001. Barely a third of respondents favoured Obama’s strategy in the two Middle East wars. In another Gallup poll, just 36% of poll respondents supported the way Obama was handling Afghanistan, a sharp decline from 48% in February.

The drop in support for the ongoing wars (though the one in Iraq is slated to end soon) has been hastened by rising casualties and the Wikileaks leak of over 90,000 confidential military documents that paint a grim picture of the war in Afghanistan. About 76,000 of these have been released to the public. However, two-thirds of the people polled in the USA Today/Gallup Poll said it was wrong for the whistle-blower website to publish the documents, which have often been compared to the Pentagon Papers. Also, 57% of respondents said they want a timetable for removing American troops, and two-thirds of those 57% said they want a gradual withdrawl.

Obama’s personal approval rating also hit a new low in the poll. Just 41% of poll respondents approved of Obama’s handling of his job, while 53% disapproved. The above poll was conducted Tuesday through Sunday, and a Gallup poll on Monday had him at 45% approval. A Rasmussen Reports poll has Obama’s July approval rating at 46%, while 54% disapprove.

Also, according to another poll, Obama’s quarterly job approval average has hit an administration low. The quarterly rating, which is compiled of Gallup polls averaged out each quarter, has sunk every quarter Obama has been in office, but at different rates. In his sixth quarter of office, Obama averaged 47.3% approval, which varied from 52% in a poll conducted in mid-May to just 44% in another one conducted in mid-July. The biggest quarterly drop that Obama had was from Q2 to Q3 of his presidency, when health-care reform ran into trouble. Obama’s approval rating declined from 62% to 52.9% during that period. Since then, the approval slide has plateaued, with declines of 2% of average from Q4-Q6.

Man in UK convicted for having obese dog

Wednesday, May 13, 2009

A British man, Ronald West, has been convicted of animal neglect after authorities received complaints about his five-year-old dog being severely overweight. Authorities discovered the case of neglect in December 2008 after a neighbor complained that West’s Border Collie Taz appeared to be too fat.

When authorities arrived at West’s residence, they found Taz’s feces scattered around the house and in every room. Authorities made several more visits to West’s home until March 2009, at which point they determined that there had been no improvements in living conditions, and so they seized the dog. Taz weighed 88lbs (40kg) when authorities seized him.

West had said that he had been ill with the flu and was unable to clean up after Taz or take him for walks. He admits that he and his friends overfed Taz which led to his obesity, but West says it was not intentional.

“I’ll put my hands up and say I’m guilty of [Taz] being overweight, but it wasn’t deliberate. You can be cruel with kindness,” said West in March, according to the police report.

West’s sentencing has been postponed because he failed to appear at today’s hearing. When sentenced, West could face a fine of up to £5,000 (US$7,581), six months in prison, and may be forbidden from owning any pets.

When A Slip And Fall Attorney In Silverdale Is Required

byphineasgray

The simple act of slipping and falling does not necessarily mean an attorney will be necessary. However, hiring a Slip And Fall Attorney in Silverdale is essential sometimes. Perhaps the most important sign a slip and fall lawyer should be called is the serious injury. Generally, this means the type of injury that required a hospital stay, multiple visits to the doctor, or some type of ongoing rehab or therapy. A person who slipped and fell but never experienced any particular physical issues afterwards is far less likely to be able to build a strong slip and fall compensation case.

Another sign indicating a call to a slip and fall lawyer is the right course of action is when the location of the fall was on another person’s property. A fall on your own property is something that you are typically responsible for as a homeowner. However, if the slip and fall happens at another person’s home or at a local business, that owner is responsible for your injury. This means that the owner of the property will have to compensate you for medical bills as well as pain and suffering you experience related to the injury. This money typically comes directly from a commercial insurance policy in the case of businesses and from a homeowners insurance policy in the case of individuals.

If you try to get proper compensation for your injury immediately after it occurs and are met with resistance, that is a strong indicator the intervention of a skilled personal injury lawyer is going to be required. Although the insurance company representing the property owner is unlikely to respond to an individual with a great deal of concern, or even any real alacrity, it is completely different when a lawyer becomes involved.

Insurance companies know personal injury lawyers are willing to push the case as far as necessary, even to court. This means that the insurance company becomes far more cooperative about paying out settlements when they know a lawyer is helping you. If you need a Slip And Fall Attorney in Silverdale, consider contacting Anthony C Otto. He is an experienced attorney who has worked in the area of personal injury for years with great success rates.
